"India is fast developing into a major contender in the international Taekwondo arena", pointed out Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun, Head, K-Tigers - the world's best Taekwondo demonstration team. Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun was in the city as part of a special event to promote the Korean Martial Art & Olympic Sport in the country.


Taekwondo is the National sport of South Korea and is increasingly gaining acceptance worldwide with more and more people benefiting from the disciplines of the sport. Many Indian schools and universities have extended support to promote Taekwondo in a big way across the country.

"Indians are becoming more health conscious and today are accepting and exploring new fitness regimens. This is evident as Indians are taking to Taekwondo not just as an Olympic sport but also as an important fitness routine. With over one million active Taekwondo practitioners in India, this is the right time to take the sport to new and better levels", said Master Nilesh Jalnawala, CEO and Technical Director of Jalnawala's Sports Training & Research Center (JSTARC).

JSTARC introduced "Modern Taekwondo" in India with the help of the very best in the World Taekwondo Order - K-Tigers. Founded in year 1990, by visionary Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun, K-Tigers are the most advanced international Taekwondo demonstration team. K-Tigers are not only well-known in Korea but more widely known in United States, Europe, Middle East and in Asia.

JSTARC will organize "JSTARC OPEN TAEKWONDO GAMES'09" - the biggest Taekwondo event in India on January 9, 10 and 11, 2009 at Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

An International event format of Taekwondo with massive & unprecedented aura, the event will follow International standards of organizing games. A thirty to fifty member high level Korean delegation will be attending this event in January 2009 and conduct workshops and officiate the entire championship.

The event includes a National Invitational Championship; Indian cultural programs; Indo-Korean cultural exhibition; International certified workshops for Taekwondo practitioners and Non-Taekwondo Practitioners. There will be participation from over 2000 Taekwondo Practitioners; 600 School Kids from 100 schools and 400 Corporate working professionals. The event will have a direct reach of estimated float 15000 live spectators and indirect reach of around 25 Lac audiences.

The event is the first of the series of initiatives that JSTARC will undertake to popularize Taekwondo Culture. Post this event, JSTARC plans a Korean Tour for Taekwondo practitioners in April 2009 and a K-Tigers multi city tour in October 2009.

JSTARC to organise open taekwondo games at D Y Patil Sports Academy

For the first time ever in India, a mega event in the field of taekwondo sport - JSTARC Open Taekwondo Games'09, will be conducted in the satellite city by Jalnawalla's Sports Training And Research Centre (JSTARC). The three-day event will be held at D Y Patil Sports Academy at Nerul on January 9, 10 and 11, 2009.

Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun, head of K-Tigers, the world's best taekwondo demonstration team, was in the satellite city to promote the Korean Martial Art and Olympic Sport in the country.
 
Speaking to The Times of Navi Mumbai, he said, "Indians are taking to taekwondo, not just as an Olympic sport, but also as an important fitness routine. Experts estimate that there are over a million active taekwondo practitioners in India. India is fast developing into a major contender in the international taekwondo arena."

The championship, India's biggest taekwondo festival, will comprise the theme - 'Fun, Fitness and Taekwondo', and showcase various forms of taekwondo. The curtain raiser will witness an Indo-Korean cultural exhibition comprising competitions and cultural dance programme. On the same day, a National Open Championship will be held, which shall comprise 'Poomsae' (World taekwondo Federation approved taekwondo form), 'Kyopka' (breaking techniques) and 'Hoshinsul' (self-defence techniques).
 
On January 10, spectators will witness a live demonstration by 'K-Tigers', the world's best taekwondo team. A 50-member Korean team of taekwondo masters will perform the various art forms of Taekwondo.
 
On January 11, a free international certified workshop and a seminar will be held for the registered participants. For non-taekwondo participants, there will a dose of entertainment with movie screening, basics of taekwondo aerobics and Hoshinsul. For more enthrallment, the participants will go through power testing, drills and games. The added attraction of the event will be the presence of Bollywood celebrities.
 
For the invitational national championship for Sparring Championship Awards, there are 47 categories in sub-junior / junior /senior with five medals per category; overall 235 medals.

  • Top five teams to win special reward from K-Tigers
  • Six Special Trophies and Special Certificate for "Champion of Champion Fighters"
  • Participation certificate for all participants; merit certificate for all winners
For Poomsae championship awards, there are 11 categories with five medals per category; hence 55 medals to be won in individual, pair and team.

  • Top three teams to win special reward from K-Tigers
  • Four Special Trophies and certificate for "Champion of Champions" in individual and pair
  • Participation certificate for all participants; merit certificate for all winners
In the Team Demonstration Event awards, the top five teams will win Big Championship Trophies and the same number of teams will win special reward from K-Tigers. The Special Team Awards will comprise one Big trophy for the best disciplined team and four Big trophies for the best zonal team (North / South / East / West). All teams will win a special participation memento and a special team certification. Two Big trophies will be for the maximum participating team. The Mega Awards will witness a Grand Champion Title, one each for male and female category, and one Grand Champion team (gold - 5 points, silver - 3 points, bronze - 2 points, each team participant - 1 point).

The award function of Grand Championships for individual and team events will include over 290 medals and over 50 trophies, over 10 "Champion of Champions" trophies, over 2000 Taekwondo participants across India and over 2000 non-taekwondo participants from over 100 Schools and over 100 corporate teams.

About Master Nilesh Jalnawala:

Master Nilesh Jalnawala is the CEO and technical director of Jalnawala's Sports Training and Research Centre. He is the founder member of the institution. Master Nilesh is a veteran in the field of taekwondo. He is a 5th Dan Black Belt from Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters), South Korea. He is also a national referee and an international master instructor.


Master Nilesh trains regularly with the K - Tiger Core Team in South Korea. He believes in "train yourself first" and "then train others" philosophy. He also believes that JSTARC needs to change the mindset of Indians towards taekwondo. He advocates that taekwondo is not just a children's sport, but a sport that should be taken up actively by adults as a fitness and wellness regimen. Other than taekwondo, he reveres and practices spiritualism. He also spends a lot of his time in researching on taekwondo and sports fitness.

Taekwondo championship to take place in Mumbai

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Taekwondo will be seen in India in a new avatar with world famous K-Tigers demonstrating their art for the first time in the country.Jainawala's Sports Training & Research Centre (JSTARC), which will organise "Open Taekwando Games '09?, is one of the only three non-Korean Taekwondo institutes around the world to get the affiliation of the K-Tigers.

The event will held at D. Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, Jan 9-11.

The aim is to promote the sport not only as a means of self-defence but also a fitness programme involving acrobatics, aerobics and and jazz dance.

As many as 600 school kids from 100 schools and 400 corporate working professionals apart from over 2,000 Taekwondo practitioners will participate in the event.

"When we talk of Taekwondo as a sport to fight, we are limiting it only to youngsters. But what about the children and older people? We aim to bring out that facet of the sport that would make it attractive to larger audience of different age-group," said Nilesh Jainawala, CEO and technical director, JSTARC.

The five member K-tiger team is led by Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun.

A 30 to 50-member high-level Korean delegation will attend the event and conduct workshops and officiate the championship.

A five-member team of Mumbai's young 'K-Tigers', today demonstrated their skills in Taekwondo here as a curtain raiser of 'Open Taekwondo Games', organised by the Jainawala's Sports Training & Research Centre (JSTARC), to be held at Dr D Y Patil Academy, Navi Mumbai, on January 11.

The team led by Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun of South korea based 'K-Tigers', world famous Taekwondo institute, showed perfect 'Tholiochagis' 'Najundemakis' fused with elements of jazz dance and aerobics. ''JSTARC is one of the only three non-Korean Taekwondo institutes around the world affiliated to the K-Tigers. We will be extending every support to to make the sport more popular here in India,'' said Ahn Hak-Sun.

JSTARC and the K-Tigers are trying to push Taekwondo in India not only as a means of self-defence but also as a fitness activity with.
