Nidhi's Experience at Chuncheon Open
NIDHI NAIR
Seeing an Indian competing and winning at an international Tae Kwon Do event was my Master’s dream. Soon on seeing his passion and involvement in this sport brought about similar interest in me too.
The 7th Chuncheon Open Tae Kwon Do Championship 2009 was a short term goal put forward for me. All excited about representing my Country at an International level. I began training with an aim to make my Country proud.
My training regime was initially very hectic, but as time passed by, I became used to it. 10-12 hours of training every day de-moralized me at times but my Master [NILESH JALNAWALLA] DPS Physical Instructor and Principal kept encouraging and believed in me and kept telling me – 'You can do it'. These words were always very encouraging at every second of my training hours.
Days passed really quickly and it was soon time for me to fly to Chuncheon. I could feel the pressure and the expectations all my loved ones had from me, made me want to make them feel proud.
Finally it was the day of the competition, 14th July’09 and I had all kind of feeling and emotions in me. I was excited nervous, impatient and what not! But when my competition began, I looked at Nilesh Master in the stands and his confident look put that confident into me. My journey to the final round was breath taking as I eliminated my major opponents from S.Korea, Russia and Egypt. But in the end my hardwork did pay-off and I did manage to bag bronze medal! I was the happiest person under the sun. But, I personally believe that this achievement of mine was good but not good enough. My aim is and will always be to get the gold medal for my Country. But this achievement of mine is just the beginning was good and it is a kick start to my long journey.
JSTARC has a dream of producing world Champions and not just one! So my aim as the captain of the team is to share this dream with my Master and convert this dream into reality.
And last but never the least, I would like to sum up by saying Thank you to each and every individual who was a part of this. I sincerely thank my Guru, my Master, and the reason why I’m here today thanks Nilesh Master for all his support, inspiring words and precious time that he put in to making me whatever I am today. And also I thank my parents who always supported me in every decision I took. This victory of mine is only because of them for they encourage me at every difficult time.
And lastly I would like to thank all my seniors, friends and each and every member of JSTARC who always gave confidence and always encourage me. Especially my friends who always supported me and always made me laugh!
I also thank my School DPS, my Principal and all the teachers who supported me through and accommodated me despite of missing classes.
